Golden Wall Finishes

It’s very trendy to use a textured trowel to create a broom-textured finish with creative plaster and, after smoothing it out, to enhance it with transfer foil—for example, in gold. There are also effects available in silver, bronze, iridescent colors, or holograms. With Stucco naturale’s creative plaster, creating such surfaces is a breeze.

What steps are required to create the broom-stroke texture and make the wall shine in the desired color?

  • Apply adhesive primer and let it dry for 12 hours
  • Mix the color paste with the desired color; in our example, it is iron oxide black at 10% by weight. Instructions here
  • Mix the creative plaster thoroughly with the color paste and apply the first coat thinly and smoothly using a Venetian trowel. Let this coat dry for 12 hours
  • Moisten the surface with water using a spray bottle and let it soak in. Apply the second layer of creative plaster and draw the lines with the dabbing brush. Let it set slightly and smooth it out delicately with the Venetian trowel
  • Apply the transfer foil adhesive to the dry surface (let it dry for at least 12 hours). Apply the adhesive to a maximum of two strips of transfer foil and let it air dry for about 10 minutes before applying the transfer foil with the white side facing down. Press it onto the surface by hand or with a squeegee to remove any wrinkles. A very helpful tool is the rubber roller, which you can buy here at a low price* (*affiliate link)
  • After approx. 2–12 hours, peel off the film depending on how much gold pigment you want to remain. The surface needs about 1 more day to dry until the adhesive has cured and the surface is no longer sticky
