What exactly is lime paint?

Stucco Naturale lime paint offers a particularly breathable, ecological, and organic coating with natural antibacterial properties. It consists of pure lime putty, carefully selected additives for optimal processing, and selected oils. The binding agent is high-quality, slaked air lime [Ca(OH)₂] with a purity of 98%, which is obtained from pure, selected limestone using traditional methods at low temperatures (850–900 °C). This lime paint is highly permeable, free of harmful substances, and resistant to mold and other microorganisms. It is also 100% recyclable and can be reused as an additive—ideal for sustainable construction and healthy living.

What surfaces is lime paint suitable for?

Our lime paint is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Suitable surfaces include:

• all mineral plasters; for example, smoothed creative plaster
• lime plaster, fresh or old
• clay plaster

What are the advantages of lime paint?

• Matt and highly opaque marble white

The substrate should be dry and free of separating substances such as oil stains. Poorly adhering layers should be removed with a wire brush or a scraper. If necessary, the substrate should be strengthened with casein primer.

Application:

Before application, check the absorbency of the substrate and moisten slightly if necessary. Mix the lime paint with water to the desired consistency.
Apply the first coat with a lime brush in a criss-cross pattern. After drying, apply the second coat also crosswise with a lime brush or alternatively with a lime pump. If necessary, a third coat can be applied. Always apply colored coats crosswise with a lime brush.

It is essential to allow the paint to dry thoroughly between coats. Failure to follow the application instructions correctly may lead to undesirable results.

Can lime paint also be tinted in different colors?

The lime paint can be colored with all of our color pigments, except for iron mica. A maximum of 10% by weight can be mixed into the lime paint. This means that 2 kg of dry paint can be added to 20 kg of paint. The lime wash cannot bind any more than this and the paint would chalk. Before applying the colored coat, one or two coats of white should be applied, either with a lime brush or a roller. The coats of colored lime paint are best applied with a lime brush. Unevenly absorbent surfaces will result in a patchy finish. If this is not desired, the surface can be pretreated with casein primer.

What is the expected consumption?

0.2-0.3 kg/m², consumption depends on the absorbency of the substrate and the dilution. A previous coat of casein primer evens out the absorbency of the substrate. This makes application easier and reduces the amount of lime paint required. The final covering power of the paint can only be seen once the lime paint is completely dry.
